The Galloway Levellers 1723/24. A Tercentenary Review.
When & Where
Event Details
The Galloway Levellers were groups of small tenant farmers and crofters, who roamed the SW of Scotland taking action against local landowners who wanted to enclose their land and evict them to make way for cattle.
This year is the 300th anniversary of the uprising and our November speaker Ivor Waddell, will explore the revolt and its influence in Galloway. Covering the timeline of the main events and why it happened here, he will discuss why there were so few violent incidents and what were the consequences.
