The Society was founded on 16 June 1970 to:

(a) encourage interest in local history; further research and make such information more readily available; compile records within the Society and to preserve them with objects of local interest so that they may be displayed
(b) protect and preserve those parts of our heritage which will be of historical interest to future generations
(c )co-operate with other societies with similar interests

The Society meets on a Monday night, every fortnight during the winter months October to March in the Gibson Craig Hall, Lanark Road West, Currie.
