After setting a general scene Archie McConnel will introduce some general reasons for mapmaking in the !8th century and some of the characters involved, including of course our local practitioner John Gillone. He will show how these characters did not just appear but were very much linked to the other cognoscenti of the day across the Region and Scotland in general. He intends having a closer look at the town itself especially the harbour area and hopes for input from members and will encourage participation and comment throughout his presentation.
