Digging Up East Renfrewshire's Past: Thirty Five Years of Local Archaeology
When & Where
Event Details
Back in the year 1990, dedicated local amateur archaeologists, Susan and Robin Hunter, began a 20 year labour of love; to carry out an archaeological survey of Eaglesham Parish. These surveys encompassed all the farm lands, settlements, field systems, prehistoric and other monuments in the area and the papers relating to this detailed survey were published by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists.
Susan Hunter later published a compendium, in book form, of all the various survey papers to make the research accessible to many more people. However Susan wasn’t ready to hang up her dig tools quite yet, and after the first twenty years, carried on to survey Busby and the south east and southern parts of Mearns Parish, encompassing Broom Estate, and Kirkhill farm town.
We are delighted that Susan will be sharing her experiences and discussing some of the most interesting features that she and her team have discovered over the last few decades. So join us to hear the highlights of her long journey into local archaeology.
