Community Archaeology in Kirkcudbright
When & Where
Event Details
During the summer, part of the Community Archaeology 0f The Galloway Glens programme took place in Kirkcudbright. Thanks to their funders, Historic Environment Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund, they have been able to make all of these learning experiences free for our members and any other interested parties. Tom Rees of Rathmell Archaeology, whose team led the activities, will give an update of the summer at the next meeting of the Society.
The first in the town was the Castledykes excavation. There were ‘finds galore’ and there is an exhibition at the Stewartry Museum from the 1910s Castledykes excavations.
A Survey Skills workshop was held in St Cuthbert’s Kirkyard at the end of July, this has resulted in some fascinating digital models being created.
In August, the Moat Brae excavation proved to be a draw for locals and visitors alike.
