Dundee Walk & Talk: Discovery Point & Verdant Works
When & Where
Event Details
Join us for a visit to Dundee Heritage Trust's two museums.
In the morning we shall visit Discovery Point, home of Captain Scott's famous Antarctic research ship, built in Dundee in 1901.
After a light lunch we then embark on a walk from Riverside through the Nethergate, South Tay Street and West Port and various sites, both ancient and modern, to the Verdant Works, the museum that tells the story of Dundee's Jute Industry.
Agenda
11.00 Meet at Discovery Point, Riverside, Dundee DD1 4XA
13.00 Lunch at Discovery Point
14.00 Walk and Talk from Discovery Point to Verdant Works led by Steve Connelly, chair of the Scottish Local History Forum
14.30 Verdant Works, West Henderson's Wynd, Dundee DD1 5BT
16.30 Depart
As an old ship RRS Discovery requires care and attention when using its gangways and stairs. See Accessibility Guide - RRS Discovery and VW-access-guide.pdf (verdantworks.co.uk).
The walk between the two museums is along pavements and will use pedestrian crossings except at Guthrie Street close to Verdant Works. The entrance to Verdant Works is cobbled, so demands a little extra care.
There is a pay and display car park at Discovery Point. Long stay car parking is also available at the Greenmarket and for those who would rather not walk between the two venues there is car parking at Verdant Works in the adjoining Blinshall Street.
