Edinburgh and Scottish Collection
About this Resource
The Edinburgh and Scottish Collection was brought into being by the merger of the former Edinburgh Room and Scottish Library in 2011. The remit of the Edinburgh Room was to collect all published and unpublished material, in many formats, relating to the history, people and culture of Edinburgh. The Scottish Library was a lending and reference library devoted to Scotland. The merging of the two collections brings them together physically while still retaining their uniqueness.
All topics are covered, and all types of material including press cuttings, newspapers, maps, photographs, church newsletters, archival and manuscript materials and ephemera such as leaflets and theatre broadsides. Many of our images are digitised on our Capital Collections website at www.capitalcollections.org.uk and www.scran.ac.uk
The department is open to the public; membership is not required for browsing the open access collections. However, for consultation of our rarer material advance notice and proof of identity are required.
